Abstract: The main purpose of this research is to analyze the types of euphemisms used by the presidential and vice presidential candidates in the two debate periods, as well as to identify the differences and similarities in the use of euphemisms between the two periods. This type of research is qualitative research with a critical discourse analysis approach. In this study, it can be understood that the use of euphemisms in the 2019-2024 and 2024-2029 Presidential Election Debates has almost similar goals, namely to maintain a positive image of presidential and vice presidential candidates, ease tensions, and avoid direct confrontation that can damage relations between candidates. Euphemisms are used to reduce the potential negative impact of criticism and to convey messages in a more subtle and polite way. This aims to keep the candidates appearing thoughtful, diplomatic, and able to elegantly manage differences of opinion, which is important in a democratic system. In contrast, in the 2024-2029 Presidential Election Debate, there was a shift in the use of euphemisms. Although euphemisms are still used to avoid direct conflict, candidates tend to use language that is more optimistic, constructive and inclusive
